Fairmount, Georgia Speed Traps
East on Hwy 53 just off Hwy 411
The 45 mph sign covers the line-of-sight and you can’t see the flashing light and reduction to 25! Cops are lined up to catch folks during school hours. Outrageous $465 fine! I believe city of Un-Fairmount is in violation of state laws about speed traps. I bet their revenues are more than the 35% allowed from moving violations. One lady got charged $225 for a burned out tag light. NO warning!! Absurd abuse of power! Avoid going thru Fairmount if possible!
Turning onto Hwy 53 from 411 – School Zone
Before the elementary school is a flashing 25MPH school zone sign as you pass the school you will see an end of school zone sign then a speed limit sign of 45 MPH after passing the 45 MPH sign I was pulled over for 46 MPH in a school zone when I did not accelerate until after the school zone sign. Several other vehicles were pulled over as well. I did not speed up until I passed the end of school zone sign.
Peachtree St at Fairmount Elementary School
The speed limit is 35, and immediately drops to 5 mph.
SR-53 at Peachtree St
At the school zone, the speed limit drops from 45 to 25 immediately.
On top of Hwy 53 bridge going out of town
They sit on the left side of road (in the pull over) just before the Fairmount City limit sign (coming into town) using radar they will hit you and say it’s in the 35 MPH – but it changes to 45 just off the bridge – they do that to double your fine!!
