Overpass – I-75

Tifton, GeorgiaJun 07, 20210 Comments

Northbound on i75 from FL. Going a little fast, I understand… (probably ~85).
Clocked me going “93 in a 70,” officer did not mention that I could confirm with radar, which I believe is against Georgia law (something I did not know at the time). I am from Illinois ~700 miles away and was unable to show in court and argue my $500 ticket.

Two theories:

1. I was in a huge group of cars and the idiot that stopped (me) was the one getting the ticket.

2. I have an Illinois plate on my front bumper and the cop knew I’m from out of state.

Dirty county in a dirty state, avoid it if you can. Don’t give’em any sales tax.

I-75 in Tifton Georgia

My husband and I were on our way to Atlanta from Florida. He had the cruise control set to 82 and the speed limit was 70 so yes we were speeding…BUT…there’s a few factors here that I don’t think are right. Number one, we didn’t see the swarm of cop cars anywhere. I read in other people’s instances that the reason no one ever sees them is because they hide on the overpass, one cop is running radar and when they catch someone they signal to another cop to go pull them over and write the ticket. We were the slowest of the cars as everyone was speeding around us but I guess we were slow enough to catch. Number two, the cop said we were going 85 in a 70 which was not accurate. After investigating this once we got home I realized that if you are going 85 and over in Georgia you are considered a “super speeder” and you get an EXTRA $200 fine on top of your already huge ticket ($350 plus $25 processing fee to be exact). So $575 for all of this. It’s funny that in order to get that extra fee we would have had to be going 85…not 82. So many other people have said the same EXACT thing about their tickets…that they weren’t going 85 but the cop told them they were “clocked at 85”. And I also read in many posts that they target out of state drivers because they know they can’t come back to court to fight the ticket. In retrospect we should have asked to see the radar gun or questioned him but we didn’t know any of this. We figured it would just be a normal speeding ticket. Mind you, he never asked for our vehicle registration or anything. Just my husband’s license and within 3 minutes had the ticket printed up and we were on our way. I’m so livid because I feel like there is no repercussion to their injustice. We can’t take the time off from work to go drive all the way back and fight the ticket nor do we have the money because it seems like it would cost just as much if not more than the ticket to fight. It’s crazy how many people all have almost identical stories to ours and a lot have even worse stories.

overpass near Tifton

I was driving in the center lane going downhill at 80 mph. I did not brake because I was not approaching another car. I did not see the Tifton police officer on the overpass until I was directly under him. I thought there was no way he would pursue me for going 80 downhill. I was wrong. This aggressive monster endangered the lives of people on the overpass, the on-ramp, and cut off several cars to squeeze in behind me. He was extremely hyped up and told me I was going 88. This was a blatant lie. I looked at my speedometer the minute I saw him, and I was going 80. I gave him all my information, and this took over 20 minutes to write a ticket while I sat roasting in the car. Wins points with the backwoods town of Tifton for endangering the lives of countless people to make money for that failure of a town. Why didn’t he aim his laser at the left lane where cars were passing me? It seemed like he targeted me personally as a woman. He could care less about safety. I was driving very safely in the center lane. I exceeded the speed limit solely because I don’t brake on downhill slopes unless I am near another car. This is the first speeding ticket I’ve ever had in my life, so I have to get my DMV record and swear an affidavit to get my point across to this town and its cops.

On top of the bridge at exit 62

I have been traveling in So Ga on I-75 for 25+ years and the county and city have been sitting on top of that bridge for years. And making a fortune in fines. Speed traps like this, all along I-75 makes me a shame I live in Ga.
Boycott Ga and do not give them one Nickle of your money in sales.

Dooley County speed trap heaven!

One sits on overpass with laser gun then radios buddy waiting down the road for car to be pulled over. Ticket anything over 73mph (told by man with hat) and you may get caught. It doesn’t matter if it is 73 to 75 mph nothing given on any day. Any ticket over 70mph 245.00 please, and thank you come again. The boys with the hats give nothing. Work zone since 2010 still not finished to double you speed fine. Max fine for 73 mph in a 65 work zone——428.23 dollars told by a friend so please be careful people, this is crazy and they are waiting right at change of signs, no exceptions even if workers are not present.
