Winterville, Georgia Speed Traps

While the speed limit is not unrealistic, the enforcement and fine amounts are excessive. Stops are made for infractions of tag light, tail light, touching the white outer line, window tinting amoung all of the usuals such as speeding,etc. This area of road (the town of Winterville includes just a 1 mile radius of downtown) is patroled by both Winterville PD and Athens/Clark Co. PD and very few warnings are issued. The town also has a policy, strictly enforced, in which warrents are issued for missed traffic court appearences. The catch is, they will arrest you the very next day after a missed appearance. Cruisers sit hidden beside the ball field fence and a stand of pine trees next to Winterville Elementary.

The Winterville Police Department enforces all violations to the maximum extent and fine limits. Enforcement includes judgment call infractions � window tinting, loud music, dim tail lights, tag "not properly displayed", etc, etc. Beware.
