Antioch, Illinois Speed Traps
Route 173, Behind Kia Dealership
Behind the Kia car dealership on Route 173 (just a little bit east of Route 83), there is a small section of road that’s industrial. The cops like to sit there late at night (I’ve been noticing lately) watching cars going eastbound on Route 173. Antioch High School has their football field right there, so it’s easy for the cops to hide back there.

Illinois Route 83 & Illinois Route 173
On the southeast corner of Illinois Route 83 & Illinois Route 173, up real high on a hill, there is an old Ice Cream Shop that I believe is out of business. When I was out real late one night with friends, I was going to turn north onto Illinois Route 83 (coming from the west on Illinois Route 173), and my radar detector went off. That was the first time I’ve used it in a long time. We were all looking around to see where the cop was sitting, and he was sitting up real high on the hill near the ice cream shop with his lights off. After that incident (we didn’t get pulled over), I later started to use my radar detector all the time, and it actually influenced my friends to buy one for themselves thereafter.
IL 173 East of Hwy 83 by the car dealers.
When driving East or West on 173, by the car dealers, the cops pull people over for crossing the "Fog line" (which is the white line on the right side of the road). People pass on the right when someone is turning left and they cross over the white line. There has been "Too many accidents" when people do this… is what the police officer told me when he pulled me and someone else over. "It is illegal to cross the fog line in Illinois." (I got my drivers license in WI and it is legal) I didnt know it was different in Illinois till it cost me $75.00).
Southbound 59 just off of 173
Antioch modified the speed zone from 45 to 35 in a small stretch of highway from Rte 173 south about 1 mile. Officers sit in the new ACE hardware or back into a vacant lot on the East side. Downhill … watch your speed!
