Braidwood, Illinois Speed Traps
Braidwood is a former coal-mining town. The coal played out decades ago; while I feel sorry for their economic loss, it is still no excuse for them to become the automotive equivalent of Somali Pirates to stoke their city coffers. I was on my way out of town, almost to the interchange where I assumed the speed limit went up. Not so, according to the nice officer. The only plus side of this encounter is that he was respectful and professional in his demeanor.
The Braidwood "City" Police set out on I-55 starting at Reed Road Exit# 233 up to Il. Rte. 129 Exit #236. They set on ramps, in the emergency turnarounds (in middle between lanes), sometimes one on overpass "shooting" the traffic in the back, with chase car on ramp. Would this be one definition of "poaching"?
Local police patrol the section of Il Rt 55 between the Braidwood exit of Rt 129 and the Reed Road exit. Because it is within Braidwood city limits are allowed to do so. Speed zone is 65 on the highway so beware when traveling through here.
Exiting Il 55 onto Kennedy Rd – speed limit on Kennedy Rd is 30 mph and officers sit with radar guns by gas station and write tickets for any infraction of speed.
Exiting Il 55 to Braidwood through the Rt 129 exit. Speed drops outside of town to 45 and is heavily enforced. Watch for speed signs!
