Sheridan Road near Cemetery at Evanston/Chicago border

Evanston, IllinoisDec 23, 20041 Comments

Rounding the cemetery, there will frequently be a police officer with radar in one of two places:

1) Just north of the cemetery by the South Boulevard beach entrance. Can NOT be seen until it’s too late if you’re heading northbound.

2) Resting in the median at the midway point of the cemetery. Can NOT be seen until it’s too late if you’re heading northbound or southbound.

Speed limit is 30 MPH — 15 to 20 MPH slower than typical traffic. If stopped, you WILL get a ticket.

Chicago and Sherman especially, but watch out throughout the town

Especially during the summer when there are fewer students at Northwestern, the cops in Evanston and the Northwestern officers have less to do, and they go after people for fund-raising reasons, and not just for speeding. I was pulled over for "failing to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle." As far as I could tell, the charge was complete bunk, and I’ve heard stories of the same sort of thing happening to others that frequent the area– the officer asks for cash on the spot to pay the fine.
