Somonauk, Illinois Speed Traps
Entering town from the west on US 34.
A while back the state reduced the speed from the funeral home to the school from 55 mph to 45 mph. Especially during early morning hours before sun-up the locals will sit a short ways into town and get you in the 45 zone.
County line Rd near new library
The speed limit goes 25,35,45 all within 150 yards. A small town can survive if there police are alert, and they are.
County Trunk 2
Going south on Hoxey Rd (Gage St/Co 2) out of Somonauk the speed is 25 mph and is enforced vigorously. Police hide in the local park as well as along side the phone company switching building. There is a tendency to go faster in this section as the speed limit increases soon after the town.
Going north INTO Somonauk the same speed trap exists. Speed limits rapidly drop from 55 to 45 to 35 to 25. It’s at the 25 mph speed area that the tickets are issued. Recommend slowing down alongside Lake Holiday and observing speed limits.
Holiday Drive
These "Rent a cops" will pretty much pull you over anywhere, even follow you to your house. Make sure that you go the speed limit (25 mph). They like to sit in the green areas and right by any of the entrances.
Gage Street near Off Route 34 toward Lake Holiday
After turning off Route 34 on to Gage Street toward Lake Holiday beware as the posted speed limit is 25MPH and they really inforce it. They hide behind a large brick building and Wham, get you as you go by. I see at least two pull overs per week right near the park.
