Due to Road construction on IL Route 4, State Police, City & County have been sitting between Monroe/Old Jacksonville and Lawrence watching for speeders going in the 45/55 zones due to turn lane construction in these areas. Another area is between Iles and I-72 due to high traffic areas caused by the shopping areas along this stretch.

a car sits on a overpass above the highway with chase cars on the on ramps. They mostly target cars heading north. there are 3 or 4 overpasses they use, they switch to keep you guessing.

The Springfield City Police, as well as Springfield University Campus Police pick off speeders left and right on this stretch of 8th Street. I’ve actually seen an Officer with the University Police on the 3rd floor of the parking ramp; at the corner of 8th and Monroe, shooting radar at motorist heading North bound up 8th St. The cop shooting radar will radio a patrol car sitting on Monroe to nail the speeders.
The University Police are still using the Mid 80’s Dodge Diplomat’s. Yes, you read correctly; this money strapped agency needs to write as many tickets as they can in order to get themselves new patrol cars.
The City police normally shoot radar off of Monroe or Adams, they have newer patrol cars ranging from Crown Vics to one marked Camero that I’ve seen pulling over speeders.
I was pulled over by a City officer, he was kind enough to give me a verbal warning. This doesn’t happen very often from what I’ve heard from others that have been the victim of this trap.

Chatham Road

Its a 35mph zone, should be a 45. A main road throughout town. The cop usually hides around the corner in a dark spot, especially at night. They will pull you over for going 5mph above the speed limit. They use radar guns on the Ka band.
