Waukegan, Illinois Speed Traps
Sunset Boulevard near McAree Street
This has been going on for at least a decade. Cops will either hide along the side street right across the street from a church that sits on the corner of McAree & Sunset, or they sit in the parking lot of Waukegan Foods (located next to an abandoned grassy lot). Also note that between McAree and Lewis Ave as you go east there will be cops hiding on the small side streets on the north side of Sunset.
Lewis Avenue near Yorkhouse Road
Cops will hide among any of the small side streets on the West side of Lewis Ave. between the golf course and Target.
Greenbay Road near Grand Avenue
There is a road block with about 20 cops & 20 tow trucks waiting for the next victim. They sit at the bank of Waukegan there on the corner of Grand and Greenbay, and they pull people over for no reason at all. They are looking for drivers without insurance, DUIs and warrants. So beware.
Greenbay Road near 10th Street
The landscaping company driveway just west of the light has three cruisers lined up right behind one another. As one sees a car deemed speeding, it shoots out to catch the individual. The unsuspecting following traffic (just north of the light as it travels southbound), thus seeing the cop car lights ahead, falls victim to the well hidden cruisers 2 and 3. It is not uncommon to see as many as three cars pulled over one right after another with the three cruisers behind them – at the same time. The scene then looks like this: car and cruiser, 50 feet, car and cruiser, 50 feet, car and cruiser then traffic light – all at once.

He’s watching you! I’ve seen him here and there all along that stretch. Most of the time he hides on the west side behind a good size bankment with bushes hidding him from south bound traffic, while at the same time a privacy fence hidding him from the North bound traffic. He has a few good spots picked out but it’s almost always on the west side of the road.
