US Highway 31 near Ballys Gym

Greenwood, IndianaApr 30, 20070 Comments

The officers like to sit in the Ballys parking lot. Also There are a few business driveways south from Ballys toward Smith Valley Road that they like to sit in. This effects both northbound and southbound traffic. This trap is most active during the Sunday morning chruch rush when traffic is light but everyone is late for church. There is too much congestion during the weekday business hours to be effective there. Speed limit is 45mph which is OK but given the slight change in elevation and sweeping curves speeds can gingerly increase which makes for some good trap setting.

Sheek Road near Main Street

Greenwood, IndianaApr 30, 20070 Comments

Sheek Road from Main Street to Worthsville Road. Speed limit was changed from 35-40mph to 30mph. Traffic enforcement increased dramtically after new speed limit posted. Officers hide at RV dealer lot entrance, golf course entrance, Shilo Run neighborhood entrance, Woodgate neighborhood entrance, Greenwood Station neighborhood entrance, at church at Stop 18 intersection, and at Central Park neighborhood entrance. Standard black and white Greenwood PD cruisers and motor cycle patrols.

County Line Road near Main Street

Greenwood, IndianaApr 30, 20070 Comments

Emerson Avenue from Main Street to County Line Road. There are many hidden business driveways along this road where the Greenwood PD like to sit. Be very careful at the driveways of the new unoccupied office complexes close to the new shopping center. Also don’t be fooled by the decoy car sitting in the bank parking lot. As a vehicle is nabbed north bound the officer then resets the speed trap south bound, alternating like this over the course of a few hours. Speed limit is 40mph but traffic often pushes to 45-50mph.

State Highway 31 near Troy Avenue

Greenwood, IndianaMay 09, 20040 Comments

This speed trap is located just north of the Steak N Shake. Most of the tickets are given to those heading northbound on US 31, towards Indianapolis. There is a small convience store and liquor store on the right hand side, as well as a white sign towards the front of the lot. BE VERY CAREFUL! They hide behind this white sign, and you do not see the patrol car until you are already past it. Greenwood Police have also picked up some new model Honda Civics that look like ordinary street cars. Use extreme caution with speed in this area!

Berry Road near Smith Valley Road

Greenwood, IndianaApr 19, 20040 Comments

Just south of Smith Valley Road on Berry Road (C.R. 400W) is the Sugar Grove Elementary school. During school hours a Johnson Co. Sherrif may sit w/radar and enforce the school zone. That’s not a big deal he sits out in the open. However before school and around 2:45 when the high school about 3 miles away lets out, he will sit further on down the road in a utility pullout just below a downward hill (as you go south). Because of a house and vegitation you can’t see him coming north either. The speed limit is 35mph. You will get busted for 45mph. MANY Locals are used to speeding on this road. BE CAREFUL, I live very close to here and he is there 4/7 days during the week. Mostly to get high schoolers speeding but he’ll stop anybody. Sometimes he has a patrol car, sometimes (in summer) a motorbike.
