Leavenworth, Kansas Speed Traps
Through downtown, 20 MPH until you get up the hill near the county courthouse. They sit in the alley behind Mid American Bank or stand near the corner of the bank with a radar and have a buddy waiting down the block.
Eastbound 92 hwy coming down hill heading into the city of Leavenworth. As you enter the city limits you go from a state hwy with mixed speeds to a 30 mph as soon as you cross the city limit sign which is located near bottom of the hill with no speed reduction posting. Patrol sets up in the entrance of the county extension office shooting west to intercept traffic which is oblivious to the sudden change of speeds. Additional complexities…drivers are coming off hill in coast, watching for traffic, as there are multiple drives at the bottom of the hill and therefore in defensive mode. Years ago this area had a speed reduction zone; the added confusion doesn’t help.
Speed limit in construction area normaly 30 MPH but there is one area where the speed limit temporarilly dips to 20 MPH. I had my cruise control at approx 00:30AM with no construction and very little traffic. On the side streets you can see almost every cruiser in Lansing with lights blazing. They have made alot of money in this area. The 20 MPH is not necessary and is restrictive. The cost was $185.00.
They like to park down in the parking lot where it is lower and harder to see them. They also check traffic headed west on Muncie road now that it has been completed. They also park in the church about 2 blocks away heading North on the right side and at Warren Middle school about another block on the left heading North. They park Way back off the road hidden behind some trees.
Speed drops from a posted 45 mph to 30 at the Sears/Walmart entrance.
