Leon, Kansas Speed Traps
State Highway 400/ 54 near Bluestem Road
Police sit on the side road next to the Cemetary just across from Bluestem Rd. Coming from the East, you’re blind till it’s too late.

It is a 1 mile stretch of the highway that the state of Kansas asked the city of Leon to perform the enforcement on. I do know that several fatality wrecks occured there before the City of Leon started enforcing that stretch of highway. There are four side roads that do turn on to the highway through there. Along that stretch of highway it does help to have a cb to find out if the locals are out.

Speed limit drops from 65 to 50 for about a mile. City of Leon appears to have annexed the property for speed trap purposes only, as town is 1/2 mile north of the highway. Officers are constantly on the scene, instead of patrolling the streets of town. No real reason for the lower speed limit.

Usually PM rush hour, but also watch out for weekends and especially holiday weekends. The city police like to hide behind a big tree just inside the city limit next to the cemetary, but you can also see quite a few Motor Carrier inspectors in that area. It is a bad place for trucks to speed.
