I-35N just before Shawnee Mission Pkwy

Merriam, KansasMar 20, 20100 Comments

Officer was sitting with lights off at night on shoulder of I35 North on January 31, 2010. Merriam traps you because they lowered the speed limit in the section of I-35 within their city limits by 5 or 10 MPH. Also brake/slow your vehicle so you don’t go even faster down the decline/underpass under SMP. Was ticketed for 78 in a 60 and officer was def. looking for a DUI from me too but I was fine and passed the ‘follow the light pen’ and ‘walk the line’ sobriety checks. Merriam is however a city that you do not need an attorney to handle a ticket modification/amendment request to have it fixed or amended to a non-moving violation. You may request that directly of the city prosecutor.

Interstate 35 near Lamar Avenue

*****Largest Speed Trap In Kansas City****
Multiple Merriam Police and Highway patrol cars and motorcycles will sit on the opposite side of the Lamar ramp that you are approaching and will pick up speeders on the other side of the ramp. I drove around trying to find the radar, but I couldn’t find the radar. The only thing I can think of is a Traffic Scout (cameras above highway) is right above them and I’m assuming that traffic control is measuring drivers speed from a remote location. I’ve seen about 5 patrol vehicles on one side and two or three on the other. They are there practically every day.

Shawnee Mission Parkway near Interstate 35

The officer often sits on a side street catching motorists traveling east bound on shawnee mission parkway. Seems to be more lenient at night, but I have been stopped there numerous times for 10 over or worse and always receive a ticket. They give no warnings, even to a college aged girl just trying to get home at night.

Slater Avenue near Johnson Drive

Merriam, KansasMar 29, 20080 Comments

Beware of police running radar on Slater avenue south of Johnson Drive and North of Shawnee Mission Parkway. Cops sit on the west side of the street near the entrance to the city water park and run radar. The posted speed limit is 25 MPH.

49th Street near Grandview Avenue

Merriam, KansasAug 06, 20070 Comments

Police sit on Grandview (w. of Antioch) back from 49th and catch cars going both East and West down 49th. Enforcement increases as the school year starts, so watch out. They usually like to watch the morning and evening rush. 49th is a quick cut-thru to Antioch so it gets a good bit of traffic. Slow down or prepare to sign a ticket! They don’t cave on these!
