Frederick, Maryland Speed Traps
I-70W, 0.25mi before exit 49
State troopers near exit 49, weekdays mid morning, GPS – 39.41943N, 77.4818W
US 15
Traveling on US 15 there is usually an MSP or 2 sitting midway between the 19 and 20 mile marker. They run a lot of Laser and will just walk out in front of you to get you stopped. They will normally let you get away with 8-10 over
but I wouldn’t leave it up to thier judgement. You will not see them until it is too late and oncoming traffic will not let you know they are waiting in ambush.
I-70 Westbound prior to Patrick St. exit
Speed limit changes from 65 to 55 upon crossing the Monocacy River and entering Frederick. Just before the bridge over the river, there’s an overpass crossing I-70. State police sit in the median right behind this, nabbing people as they are speeding in the 65 and failing to slow down for the 55. There’s great visibility (3/4 mi.+)approaching this point from the east, but it’s still easy not to notice the dark-colored marked cars until the last second. Be sure to study the area behind the bridge pillars as you approach.
Crestwood Drive
Long stretch of road with two main drives coming off of the main road. The officers will hide in one of the two drives just far enough back to hide and then nab you. Be careful
I70, eastbound, mile marker 49.5, bottom of Catoctin Mtn.
As with the trap at I70 W/B, MM#35.5, the State Police shake down unsuspecting out of state motorists at the bottom of this long downhill stretch. There are some bushes in the median just west of the emergency cut-thru at MM#49.5 that enable them to "hide in plain sight". Another hiding place at the same location is behind the bridge abutment at MM#49.75.
