Rockville, Maryland Speed Traps
Nelson Street near State Highway 28
Nelson Street, from MD-28 is a steep downhill grade. If you take your foot off the gas pedal and nothing else you will be well above the 25 mph speed limit before the officer’s step out from behind a car and point some device at you. They occasionally aim at people coming up the hill. Shady trees in the summer make them harder to see. Normally, I shift to a lower gear, as a preference to riding the brakes. Occasionally they park behind bushes at the bottom of the hill, or a nearby street looking across the park at the bottom of the hill.
State Highway 28 near Avery Road
On Norbeck Rd (MD Route 28), traveling Southbound towards Gude, there is a large drop in the road. Police (motorcycle) will hang out on the right side of the road near Avery Rd (entrance to Redgate Golf Course) and get people coming down the hill. The speed limit is 45 but going down the hill can increase your speed so if they get you on the lowest part of the hill, your speed might be something much higher than you expect.
Crabbs Branch Road near Indianola Drive
Motorman near the townhouse condo offices usually on the northwest side of the intersection.
State Route 28 near Interstate 270
Going eastbound on Rt. 28 approaching I-270, there is an uphill after the Shell gas station and before the ramp to I-270 N. The limit is posted at 35 but it is easy to be going well above that . The police wait at the top of the hill next to the exit for northbound I-270, where you cannot see them until it’s too late because of the uphill. It is fairly common for them to be there during the morning hours on weekends, but ive seen them on afternoons also.
