Royal Oak, Michigan Speed Traps
14 mile road westbound at Coolidge
Royal Oak Police and Oakland County Sheriff are running an amazing speed trap immediately south of 14 mile road on Coolidge. The area has been under construction for months now, and as of this week confusing signage tells drivers traveling westbound on 14 mile not to make a left turn onto Coolidge South. However, normally this turn is allowed and drivers are distracted by the various signs (some covered, some temporary, some incorrect) as they wind through the narrow passage under the railroad bridge. Many make a left turn in spite of the signs and Royal Oak Police and Oakland County Sheriff are ready to pounce. When I drove by today I saw five police cars on southbound Coolidge, one cruising, and four having pulled over three victims. Blue lights were everywhere. Strangely none of the police were directing traffic or doing anything to fix the signage.
On Fourth St. Just west of Main St.
Patrol car sits in the left turn lane on Fourth St. facing Main St. from the west. Patrol car sits right in front of Goldfish Tea. My nephew and a friend of mine both ticketed there for turning left to go East on Fourth St. from Main St.. I swear the “No Left Turn” sign there is new!!
Main Street between 11 and Catalpa/Gardenia
The limit was changed to 25 MPH a couple of years ago. We set our cruise contol to avoid getting a ticket. Further up Main in Clawson also goes down to 25 and has become a money maker for them.
On 12 Mile between Main Street and Rochester
The Speed limit is apparently "30-35mph"… while Most of 12 mile is typically 40mph. The Cops can be quite particular about the speed limit during non rush hour time, Be careful.
12 Mile and Campbell
There is a cop that sits (usually at dusk) at a small vacant building next to a bank which I believe is National City. The building is just south of 12 mile on the east side of campbell across from a Shell gas station. If you are traveling north on Campbell just about to meet up with 12 mile I suggest you drive the speed limit which is 35 MPH and do NOT attempt to beat a red light. I just saw a cop there last night on 3/25/2010.
