Saint Paul, Minnesota Speed Traps
I-94 near White Bear Ave.
I drive this route more often at night than during the day, so enforcement may occur at all hours. I often see officers parked on the shoulder of I-94 within 1/2 mile either way of White Bear Ave on both the East and West bound lanes. Sometimes they use instant-on Ka and sometimes they use Laser. It is not uncommon to see one officer doing the clocking and 3-6 officers pulling people over. I’ve got a friend who’s been nailed on that stretch of road twice in the past two years, and another who got caught about 3 months ago.
Lexington Ave. South of Energy Park Dr.
On either side of bridge south of Energy Park Dr. Officer w/handheld radar is usually stationed approx. 2 blocks from bridge. On both south and northbound, you are coming over a hill, so you will not see them. Also you are going downhill, so speed hard to maintain.
Maryland Street/ From Arcade to Rice Street
Two traps on Maryland Street. One is six blocks west of Payne Avenue at the bottom of the slope. Police is usually there during summer morning rush hour waiting for unsuspecting motorist who don’t slow going down the hill. The other is right after you cross the I94 Bridge, police is there during weekends and some weekdays.
Maryland Ave. E Between Edgerton and Arkwright
When going westbound on Maryland down a hill, the police will clock you at the bottom of the hill when you are most guilty
US61/10 at Lower Afton Road
St. Paul Police like to sit in the northbound lane a half-mile or so south of Lower Afton Road, targetting the northbound traffic. Generally, its only one squad. This is definitely one to fight, as they’re tending to use hand-held laser. Also, they like to sit at the intersection of Lower Afton and 61, nabbing northbound traffic as it comes around the curve.
