Saint Paul, Minnesota Speed Traps
Intersection of Lower Afton Road & Point Douglas Road
The police wait behind the trees in the park n’ ride lot with the speed tracking equiptment, determine your speed from a few hundred yards away, then pop out into the street when you’re about 20 yards from them to make you yield to the side of the road.
I-35E between MN-5 and I-94
This stretch of I-35E freeway is limited at 45mph simply because of citizen lobbying regarding perceived noise levels. The speed limit was set as a concession by MN-DoT to be allowed to build the freeway through there in the first place. Because it’s still a freeway, and an overall safe stretch of road (no extra-tight curves, high visibility…basically, it would be 55mph if not for the NIMBYs) travellers may be tempted to drive at normal freeway speeds and get stopped for their trouble. Be careful.
University Avenue and Prior
Speed limit is poorly marked at 30 mph. They sit off to the side of the road in unmarked squad cars. Very hard to see, until you come right up on them.
Anywhere on Main Street
If you own any kind of import with a "fart pipe" exhaust or any modifications done to it, you will get pulled over 90% of the time. Same goes with muscle cars. I own a 95 civic dx thats dented to all hell. But since I have aloud muffler I can be going the speed limit and have gotten pulled over. If you are there on weekends/nights watch out, my friend had a nice eclipse and had it impounded. The reason? He was going 5mph over the speed limit and they assumed he was out their cruising looking to street race. The cops here are very strict, and use stereotyping.
Ayd Mill Rd and Selby, near Snelling
Undercover traffic unit pulled into sidestreet and shoots laser east up Selby, just before Snelling intersection. Sits on right (north) side of road. He is obviously after people coming off the Ayd Mill rd test, and people going too fast on the selby bridge (basically the same thing).
