Marine Avenue near Interstate 270

Maryland Heights, MissouriNov 15, 20071 Comments

Motorcycle cop sits under I-270 overpass in the shadows of the bridge. There is a downhill grade going East on Marine and drivers must constantly brake to keep within the posted speed limit of 30 mph. I see the speed trap set up there on a fairly regular basis.

Lindbergh Boulevard near Page Avenue

Maryland Heights, MissouriSep 14, 20070 Comments

When you are going Southbound on Lindbergh toward Page, the police sit on the shoulder just over the hill. Sometimes, there is usually 1 shooting radar and the others chasing people down. The speed limit is 40 mph, but the normal traffic flow is 55-60.

Bennington Pl/ McKelvey Road near Ameling Road

Maryland Heights, MissouriJul 26, 20070 Comments

At the corner of Bennington & Ameling. The cop ususally sits on the east side of the intersection shooting radar at the people coming down the hill on Ameling. Posted speed limit is 30, but he has clocked me at 40 and hasn’t pulled me over.

Maryland Heights Expressway near Creve Coeur Mills Road

Maryland Heights, MissouriMay 08, 20070 Comments

Multiple officers are positioning themselves on the inner median (Maryland Heights Expressway northbound) between Creve Coeur Mills Road and the next (casino exit) intersection. From here, police are claiming to use LIDAR for traffic enforcement but are actually just standing in the road randomly pointing for vehicles, regardless of actual speed, to pull over onto the inner median whereupon a speeding ticket is written. As such, I don’t believe any amount of caution except avoiding the expressway entirely will allow you to avoid being caught up in this. Four vehicles were lined up to receive tickets today at the time I was pulled over. Apparently, the expressway is now considered to be a municipal revenue smorgasbord. Police presence is always heavy on Maryland Heights Expressway, but this speed trap is egregious. Encourage all victims of this abuse to cease patronizing businesses in Maryland Heights and write letters of complaint to the mayor and all city council members.

Interstate 270 near McKelvey Road

Maryland Heights, MissouriJul 19, 20060 Comments

After the morning commute, traffic is still pretty heavy. The speed limit is 60, but traffic flows faster than that. It’s very difficult to switch lanes at the speed limit without becoming a hazard. Keep an eye out for officers on the overpass using radar.
