Vine Street

Lincoln, NebraskaJun 08, 20040 Comments

As you go east on Vine Street from 70th, Vine Street is 4 lanes west of 66th, where it reduces to 2 lanes, at 70th, the speed limit suddenly drops from 35 to 25, but the quality of the road does not change. going east, the street passes two schools and two churches which is probably the reason for the unreasonable speed limit. Once past Carlos Drive, The preferred spot for the police to sit is 80th street, at the bottom of of a rather steep hill, where they like to hide among some bushes, where the seem to like to stop anyone who passes by. Going west, it’s nearly impossible to stay within the speed limit except by putting on the brakes.

70th Street near Holmes Lake Dog Run

Lincoln, NebraskaDec 20, 20031 Comments

Many times during the school year, in the morning, an officer or two will stand in the parking lot of the Holmes Lake dog run, right across from the lake (In between Pioneers and Van Dorn). The traffic at this time of day is tremendous, and rarely gets above the speed limit (40). But, if you are the first off the light at Pioneers heading north with no one ahead of you, and just toss the limit out the window, watch out, because they WILL pull you over, I’ve seen it.

A Street near 70th Street

On A street, in between 56th and 70th, there is a hill that dips down near Pius X Highschool and Clark Jerry retirement home. An officer stands at the bottom of this hill in a small street that intersects at the bottom, usuallyl in the afternoon, about mid day, sometimes around 3:00, close to when school is let out at Pius. Many times I’ve seen someone getting a ticket. Also, if you are heading west on A going up the hill, there is a wall that goes along the north side of A. Once I’ve seen an officer hiding behind the corner of the wall at the top of the hill, tagging targets. But remember I’ve only seen this once out of the many times I’ve gone up that hill.

Old Cheney Road. between 70th and Hwy 2.

Lincoln, NebraskaOct 18, 20030 Comments

Its only 40 mph on this 4 lane wide stretch of road. I’ve seen interstates that look smaller and more narrow. It’s mostly downhill going westbound and unless you put the brakes on you will be caught by the cop standing on the side of the road at the bottom of the hill. Cops are there mainly during the noon hour. note: Most all of Old Cheney Rd. from 14th to 84th is one big speed trap.
