Mae Anne Avenue near Avenida De Landa Avenue

Reno, NevadaNov 06, 20070 Comments

Speed limit here is 35, which probably isn’t unreasonable, but the common speed traveled by most motorists on this section of road is about 45. Be careful! The motorcycle cops will sit in the parking lot of the church at the corner of Mae Anne Ave and Avenida de Landa Ave, using RADAR and LIDAR on the eastbound traffic on Mae Anne. The terrain around the church and the curve of the road make it impossible for you to see them until you are well past them, but it allows them a straight-on (and highly accurate) "shot" with their speed guns once you are about 1/4 mile past them. They’ll get you on the "speed gun" and take off after you (doing 90mph on their cycles to catch up to you and give a speeding ticket, that ain’t right…) and pull you over between Ambassador and Robb.

Plumb Lane near US Highway 395 Exit

Reno, NevadaNov 02, 20070 Comments

At the underpass to go to the airport on Plumb, there is alomst Always a motorcycle cop sitting between the columns waiting to get the people that fly through there. A lot of people try to skip through on end of yellow/now red and I see them get stopped All The Time.

State Highway 395 near US Highway 80

Reno, NevadaOct 10, 20070 Comments

just after the hwy 80 interchange just before Oddie blvd going north sometimes in the mornings I see two NHP’s on motorcycles on that little spit of sand and shoulder between the two off ramps. they will sit and wait for speeders. they are out in the open. but you cannot see them because they are just around the bend and they are invisible. I’ve only started this commute recently and I go by between 7:15am and 7:20am. I have only seen them once. but I always slow down from 70 to 65 just before going around that bend (especially since I’m getting off at Oddie and have to change lanes anyway).

Plum Lane near Kirman Street

Reno, NevadaOct 08, 20070 Comments

Motorcycle cop (RPD) usually hangs out in one of the numerous parking lots, usually on the south side of the street, just after the posted 30mph sign that is on a center island on plum lane.
I see about 5 people a month getting popped there.

Mc Carran Boulevard near Skyline Drive

As you are heading from Caughlin Ranch down toward Plumas, before the serious grade starts, motorcycles are above the road about 50 feet on a fire road. Because they are so far above the roadway, you don’t see them. You might be able to contest based on the estimation of speed from 50-60 feet above the roadway. I am pretty sure their schooling in estimating speed does not come from that far above the roadway.
