Queens, New York Speed Traps

Between the Grand Central Parkway and the Throgs Neck Bridge, the Clearview is loaded with police in unmarked vehicles. At times, you will see 3 or 4 cars in each direction with motorists being ticketed. On ramps, they have police posted checking expired registrations, inspections and seat belts and will ticket all of the time. No explanations, apologies or excuses avoid ticket.

This is normally a limit 50 area, but was recently designated a "construction area" with a limit of 30! The trouble is that there IS NO CONSTRUCTION, or anything else to alert a relatively careful driver to the "change" (e.g., nothing orange, no cones, no workers, no equipment). Traffic still moves at about 60-70, as usual, and the white speed limit signs have darkened or unreflectorized center bands indicating the "30" limit. Thus, the "30" is very hard to pick out without highbeams and knowing where to look. This is currently an MTA feeding frenzy! Don’t know how it will hold up in court… yet.

NYPD Highway 3 cop will sit on the median right at the exit and hit cars coming around the bend. I’ve seen it(and been caught in it) coming off the Cross Island and Clearview – but so far I’ve only seen it on Sunday mornings when there’s not much going on in NYC(no heightened terror warnings or such)
