20 mile an hour zone..and this is a ghost town..you can fire a cannon ball down main street and hit no one and nothing..in charlotte, nc trade and tryon street have limits of 35 mph..and lots of people and automobile traffic..however the small town and small goverment of granite falls, nc are cashing in on speeding drivers…beware this ghost town will get you..they even have (1) jail cell…and ms. b dont cook in this town…avoid hwy. 321a at all cost..even if you have to walk.

City/County Patrol car will sit in median turn lanes on 321, especially past the rise of hills and uses instant-on radar at oncoming traffic. The speed limit on this four-lane divided highway varies from 65 to 45, but there are a minimal number of speed limit signs(1-2) on a 9-mile length of 321 between Granite Falls and Lenoir. Therefore, drivers are not properly informed of the legal speed limit – where there is speed limit variation of about 20mph.

At night the Granite Falls PD patrols US 321 North vigorously. The speed limit is 55 but it is a 4 lane highway(2 each way)and it is tempting to exceed the limit. It is not uncommon to see multiple vehicles pulled over at the same time. Granite PD and NCSHP use Mustangs, Chargers and Tahoes as well as 1 Jeep Cherokee and a Camaro. If you make it through Granite Falls you then must pass through Hudson…….patrol cars are visible especially after sunset until the early mornng. As a side note…several traffic lights change to flashing cautions after midnight….be wary and cautious! I have seen numerous accidents. This information is provided not to beat the law but to hopefully help you to avoid a traffic ticket and a accident.

321 and 321A

Travelling southbound on 321 toward Hickory on a slow Saturday AM, going 61 in a 55 zone (not paying attention!). Met Trooper Powell heading northbound toward Granite Falls. Few cars had already passed me, but he did what most attack dogs are trained to do, he came after me with a vengance. I was in he wrong for 6 miles over, but what hurts is he wrote me up for 73! NO WAY was I close to tat. I’ve told everyone I know about the situation, and the HORROR STORIES they’ve told back let’s me know that America has a SERIOUS problem with out of control cops……and, apparently, there’s nothing I can do. The officer’s word is the law no matter the truth, the judges are in on the act as well.In an election year is anybody willng to take this on? I now have to hire a lawyer, get the car calibrated, go to court, pay fines, and all because the fuzz was having a slow morning. A few hours later I was returning home on 321 northbound -this time in a crowd of traffic. They were moving along at 62 (in the RIGHT lane) and we were being passed by a fleet of speeding cars whe suddenly a van cut in on me. Reason: Officer Friendly was coming southbound on the other side. Did he stop this time and come after the 15 cars that were going MUCH faster than I was when I was singled out ……you guessed it . He must have been on his coffee break.
