Akron, Ohio Speed Traps
Rte 8 &TAllmadge Ave. ramp [weekends]
one car sits at end of ramp in grassy area and thenthere are 6to8 others going south, pulling over cars for approximately 2 miles at that same time. It’s like a blitz every weekend north and south.
State Route 8 near Downtown (Perkins) exits and several exits north.
Several times per month, at PM rush hour on Rt 8 northbound, there will be 8-10 cop cars lined up at Perkins exit, Tallmadge Exit and 2-3 further exits to the north. The limit is 50mph through there. People slam on their brakes when they see the cops.
I-76 eastbound, 26 to 27 mi. markers,hiding on on-ramps
I have recently observed 6 to 8 pursuit units on m.m.27 on-ramp backing up aircraft, hand-held laser (ground-based).also, all Akron interstate hwys. as well as s.r.8 recently subject to increased enforcement.CB’s very helpful here!
I-77 south at waterloo rd exit
As you come around a curve in the highway, an officer will be sitting in a patch of grass just off an exit ramp. you can’t see him till you come around the corner. It’s a very tricky spot for them.
I-77 – I-76 split
Akron Police Department sits on the North Bound Entrance Ramp just after I76 and I77 merge at the Spaghetti Bowl. Normally checked by Radar X or K Band, but I have also been hit by Laser there. The speed limit at this trap is where it goes from 65 MPH to 50 MPH.
