Muskogee, Oklahoma Speed Traps
35 Speed limit is posted at both top and bottom of the hill, as you come up and top the rise there will be an officer parked there.
A couple miles south of Muskogee there is a speed reduction sign to 65 mph. Less than a couple hundred yards further there is another sign reducing speed to 55, even though it is still very rural and you are still significantly south of town. The cops then situate themselves just ahead of the next 55 mph sign which is just as you are coming into anything you would consider to be town. You think you are in a 65 when actually you have been in a 55 for a couple of miles. Sign placement is definitely done for speed trap purposes and revenue collection to the town. Merle Haggard would be ashamed of his hometown namesake. I will never pass through Muskogee as long as I live. Fine was $150 regardless of speed exceeded. Another indication that it is just a bilking of travelers for local revenue purposes. I tried to appeal the ticket and they acted as though they had never even heard of the process. Even spoke to the City Attorney. What a waste of time. Shame on them!
It’s located on the top of the hill as you come South on 69. The speed limit changes from 55 to 35 and the city cops like to sit up on that hill and gun anyone that comes by. I also saw at least 3 other cruisers doing the same thing on the South side of Muskogee coming north on 69. Also lots of highway patrol around here, so watch out.
City police will be closely enforcing speed limits on US 69 from Peak Blvd. (Hwy 165) south of Muskogee to Harris Road north of Muskogee through August 17, 2007.
City police will be enforcing speed limits on Okmulgee Avenue from US 69 west to 54th and east to P Street from August 27th through 31st.
