State Highway 28 near RIDC Park Exit

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaMay 25, 20050 Comments

They sit in two places going North on 28. Just after the on-ramp from RIDC, they sit in the little cove to the right and gun from there. Also just past there around the bend, they sit where the divider starts (and where the southbound side becomes 3 lanes). I see them all the time in the afternoon. You can’t really see them until you’re on top of them.

Banksville Road near West Parkway

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaMay 23, 20050 Comments

Banksville Road is a four lane road divided by a jersey barrier along it’s length except to allow turns at one of the many lights that keep the posted speed limit to 35 MPH. However, once you have made it through the last of the lights (at Crane Avenue) it is a clear shot to the Parkway West and its 55 MPH speed limit. There are no obstructions to worry about and it is downhill to boot. There used to be cops here all the time but nothing I’ve seen in the past few years. Well, this past weekend (5/20) they were out in force again. A motorcycle cop sits behind a hill by Metro Heating/Cooling and guns you down. Then he calls to one of 10 cops sitting 1/10 of a mile around a bend and they come out into the road and wave you over to the berm. They got me doing 51 in the 35 zone. See you in court.

State Route 65 North near West End Bridge

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaSep 15, 20040 Comments

Trap is immediately after West End Bridge Overpass Northbound. Motorcycle officers work in pairs observing and clocking from overpass. Trap is in a reduced speed area of a normally 40mph zone…normal limit is artificially low for the nature of the 4-lane. Speed is clocked fully 1/10 mile prior to legal signage marking the active construction zone, but fines are doubled anyway.

Interstate 279 North near McKnight Road

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaAug 25, 20040 Comments

Here is the newest, illegal ploy invented by the Pennsylvania State Police to rope in your hard earned money. Today, on I-279 Northbound, near the McKnight Road Exit, they placed one of those orange LED speed readout signs. These are fairly common, most people don’t really bat an eye at them. However, this one, was being monitored by State Troopers up the road who pulled over 52 motorists today according to our Pittsburgh ABC news affiliate. When will the troppers learn that they MUST be "obvious and visable." Sitting a half-mile away from a radar detector and then pulling over a vehicle that you didn’t physically observe breaking the law is NOT LEGAL. Anyone who got caught up in this, FIGHT your ticket. Meanwhile, be care on I-279. The PSP has been targeting this road for the past few months now, so, to play it safe, try not to exceed 65 or so.
