State Route 65

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaJun 26, 20040 Comments

The few miles of the Ohio River Boulevard between Avalon and Emsworth are infamous for being guarded by the Kilbuck Police. These guys are some of the biggest a holes when it comes to traffic violations. I live a block from here and drive though these traps many times a day. And I can tell you that these cops honestly have nothing better to do so they go after you for speeding, even if its 3-5 mph’s over. They also like to come up with rediculous charges, such as a 100 dollar fine for having a liscence plate frame that covers up the word Pennsyvania. Never ever ever go over 40 mph when you see the white lines in front of you. Follow that advice and you are good to go.

Whited Street near Milan Avenue

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaMay 28, 20040 Comments

The city of Pittsburgh was at it again, late this week. Vascar speed traps all over town. This one begins after you pass Milan Avenue, heading down towards Route 51. You will decend down a fairly steep grade in which it is near impossible to maintain the posted speed limit of 25 mph, unless you ride your breaks all the way down. At the bottom of the hill, there is a city police officer who is standing behind a bush, looking up at the hill and timing the cars going through the lines. You won’t see the officer until well after completing the VASCAR trap. Luckily, a bunch of school buses that must have been wise to what was going on caused me to slow down to exactly 25 mph going down through there, thus avoiding a ticket. It’s funny how these traps are never "about the money" or "making a quoata," however, why then do they always happen around the 27th or 28th of the month? I guess speeding and safe driving habits are only a priority in the city of Pittsburgh on those two days!

State Highway 65 near Exit Number Marshall Ave

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaMay 28, 20040 Comments

The state troopers nabbed one of our company vehicles last week on the outbound portion of Route 65 at Marshall Avenue ramp. The troopers occasionally will sit on these ramps, use their gun on you and then sneak up behind you and pull you over onto the Termon Avenue Approach. Sometimes, they will use an unmarked, white Crown Vic.

State Route 51 near Crane Avenue

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaMay 28, 20040 Comments

Just before Crane Avenue while traveling outbound from Pittsburgh on Route 51, there are a series of VASCAR lines. There is a parking lot that sits on a bluff that city cops on Thursday were standing in. They time you and then when you come around the bend, they nab you at Crane Avenue. This was another one of their traps set on the 28th of the month. Go figure!

Interstate 376 E

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaMay 21, 20040 Comments

As you head east on 376 between the Penn Hills and Monroeville exit you will go up and down a few hills. A state police office sits down in the valley on the right side of the road to catch speeders before they have a chance to react. The police officer is in a blindspot; most people won’t notice him until they are motoring down the hill. By then it is to late.
