Johnson City, Tennessee Speed Traps

Underneath the State of Franklin overpass there is a small side road that is a right of way for a couple of businesses including Factory Direct Furniture and Dixie BBQ. There sometimes is a red, blue , and white Crown Vic that sits under the underpass on the side road. Even if you coast down hill on North Roan you will be over the limit. You have to ride your brakes. By the time you see him its too late.

This is a downhill slope from Ashley Academy school to the red light on Sunset drive at Mahoney’s Outfitters (more than a mile stretch), and the police sit at any of the side streets to monitor speeding. Most mornings and lunches I see someone pulled over or I see the police car waiting. I received a ticket 5 years ago for 46 in a 35 (all downhill) and now make sure I stay less than 40 by riding my breaks. Last week a police car was traveling 25 in a 35 and none of the 5 cars behind it passed in fear of a ticket.

patrolman sits hidden in a driveway or sweeneys parking lot and catches you comming around a curve where you cant see him , speed limit is not clearly marked where it crosses the county line and drops from 45 to 30 mph

Traveling out of Johnson City on Unaka Avenue going towards the City of Watauga and also in the City of Watauga anytime, day or night. They will never give you a break either.

This is a 4 lane highway with a center turn lane. The speed limit is 30 mph. There is always a state trooper at the bottom of a long slope. You have to ride your brake constantly to keep your speed down. He always has a car pulled over. Traffic isn’t very heavy for the type road. It is almost impossible to keep your car under 30mph. The entire city of Johnson City, TN is a speed trap. For example,the city annexed a 10 Fort strip along interstates that run into other cities & counties just so they could write tickets. Unbelievable, I know, but just look at a city limit map of this town & you’ll see what I mean.
