State Route 400 near Johnson City Airport

Johnson City, TennesseeJan 30, 20070 Comments

On the way to Watauga from Johnson City there is a city cop that sits in the gravel parking lot of a closed down consignment shop just before you pass the Johnson City Airport. He usually shoots radar at those coming around a blind curve coming from Johnson City.

I’ve never been pulled over by him so I’m not certain what gun he’s using, but I’m sure it’s radar. Also he usually sits there during both AM and PM rush hours.

State Highway 11 East near State Highway 11 East

Johnson City, TennesseeJan 28, 20070 Comments

As you are travelling on Highway 11E (Bristol Highway), a half mile after the highway changes from a 55 mph zone to a 45 mph zone and you cross over Boone Lake. You start to go up a hill. As you approach the top of the hill, sometimes there is a JCPD officer sitting in the median at the very foot of the hill. If you rely on your detector, you’re too late if you are at the front of the pack. They’re not always at the bottom of the hill. Sometimes they sit at the Winged Deer Park entrance to the right with hand held units so wait until you clear that park entrance.

State Highway 11 East near Taylor Road

As you are travelling along Highway 11E (Bristol Highway) towards Johnson City, you leave Piney Flats and you start to go up a hill just a little bit. There is a JCPD officer that is actually tresspassing as he sits in someone’s driveway using a radar gun to clock vehicles just as they crest over the hill and it is too late. Watch yourself going up this hill. It is right after the highway transitions from a 45 mph zone into a 55 mph zone. He is tresspassing because in court I asked for him to provide written permission from the owner of that home that he has permission to enforce traffic laws from their driveway (all the way to the house actually) and he failed to provide that. For reference please see Chapter 55-10-317 in the Tennessee Vehicle Code.

State Highway 36 near Carol Creek Street

Johnson City, TennesseeJan 21, 20071 Comments

All road construction has been complete for some time now but the speed limit is 30mph not 40 or 45. The area is from Carol Creek road to the light at Zaks. They like to hide at the top of the hill beside the school. A ton of tickets have been written in the past few months.

South Roan Street near Science Hill High School

Johnson City, TennesseeDec 13, 20060 Comments

Officer may be in a JCPD red, blue, and white Crown Vic or on a motorcycle. Sits in a church parking lot (possible legality issues regarding this?) on right side of South Roan (traveling south) shortly after the John Exum Pkwy/N. Roan intersection near Science Hill HS. Cannot be seen until it is almost too late. Posted speed limit is 30.
