Amarillo, Texas Speed Traps
I-40 & Washington
Motorcycle cop will park on overpass bridge at Washington Street Exit and radar traffic below. Then calls down to other motorcycle cops on I-40 who will stop you as you pass — even if you’ve slowed down by then.
School Zone Crossing near Every Public School Street
With the eyes of hawks, APD on motorcycles can be found at most any school crossing during the morning commute or at school release. One can expect active pursuit and a deserved scolding – simply for their likely endangerment. When “So many pedestrians – so little time”” translates in to “”So many Kindergartners …”” we are only left with a gross lack of necessary enforcement. Sadly it is needed. Bravo APD! Thanks for looking after my kiddos!”
Bell Street near Hillside Road
They sit on one of the residental streets and radar people driving by. They catch alot of people late at night speeding down Bell Street.
S.W. 44th Ave Avenue near Gables Street Street
S.W. 44th Avenue is a through street to residents, from South Washington Street. This block is 2-3 blocks long. Speedsters ‘gun-it’ those 3 blocks, going east or west.
Grand Street near Amarillo Boulevard
Travelling North on Grand street the speed limit between 3rd street and Amarillo Boulevard is 35mph but motorist tend to speed going over the railroad overpass. The police often have 2 to 3 officers with laser set up north of the overpass to catch them as they are just coming over the rise. They catch them before they realize the police are there. On occasion they will set up near 3rd street to catch them going South on Grand on the other side of the overpass.
