Austin, Texas Speed Traps
Westgate just North of Stassney in northbound lanes
Usually a motorcycle cop will sit on the first side street after Stassney and hide behind a chainlink fence and catch speeders that come around the curve. He’s hard to see until you’re already there. Posted speed limit is 35. I’ve seen him in the a.m. and afternoon. Occasionally, I’ve seen a cop car there too.
183 Northbound at Burnet Rd exit
Both bike cops and squad cars sit on the grass underneath the entrance ramp just past the Burnet road exit ramp and shoot cars coming around the left banking turn of 183. Slow down a bit when coming off the raised section of highway 183 before you bank left, the cops are hard to spot on the right side behind the pillars.
I work at the Pep Boys right at the exit and watch the cops work this location at least 3 times per week.
North Bound 183 Just After Oak Knoll Exit
The alleged enforcer sits unnoticeably behind a bush waiting for an innocent citizen to pass.
Interstate 35 at Highway entrance after 26th Street
Motorcycle Enforcer lies in wait behind a concrete column supporting upper deck of IH 35.
North Bound Highway 183 before Anderson Mill Road
These cops hide in the parking lots of local businesses along this road. The cop that pulled me over was very unprofessional and was looking for trouble. He claims that I was going 58 in a 45, but I have a hard time believing this. You are never ever going to win an arguement with a cop, So I didn’t try to argue this. BTW this is a very quiet stretch of road and I feel that a 45 mph speed limit on 183 is simply absurd given the number of lanes on the road and lack of adjacent residential areas.
