Selma cops are entry level and are usually at their first cop jobs. So, they are overly enthusiastic about enforcing the traffic laws. There are multiple entrance and exit ramps in this area where merging traffic is coming from all directions. While you are trying to keep with the flow of traffic the cop is sitting and waiting for the poor sucker to get nailed. Basically, its Barney with a bullet.

Officers wait on access roads and specifically target drivers accelerating onto or decelerating off of I-35 on very short ramps. Speedtraps also almost constant in the area of the Vorizon Amphitheater, sometimes working in teams with unmarked vehicles.

The Selma Police Officer will lie in wait on the north side of Phoenix off of Universal Boulevard with his radar pointed across Universal Boulevard up Phoenix toward Universal City. I was clocked at 31 in a 20 MPH zone. He wrote the ticket up for 31 even adter I checked the Radar reading. I as being taped as I spoke with him asking him about his radar and its calibration. He also tole me after he wrote the ticket that anything I said was being taped.
I wonder if police have to fill a quota of tickets per shift against drivers.
In Selma the State of Texas get $85.00 as a Service fee and Tax and Selma gets an additional $3.00 for every mile over the speed limit. IMO Texas law for a service fee of $85.00 amounts to exthortion.

I-35 North or South

Selma, TexasSep 01, 20000 Comments

The Selma and Schertz (about 10 miles north of San Antonio) police departments are known for speed traps along the short stretch of I-35 north and south that passes through their respective jurisdictions. Motorists travelling I-35 in that area should be very careful in that area as the speedtraps are very common. My detector usually indicates K-band radar in use.
