I-45 at Wilmer city limits

Same as previous complaints. In Texas speed is not citable unless 10 mph+ over the limit. Northbound on I-45 from Houston-Dallas I-45 is 70 mph all the way. At the completely unmarked Wilmer city limit just south of Dallas the limit drops to 60, so if one is driving 72 the cops pull you over and WRITE THE TICKET. There are no warnings nor interest in traffic safety. A review of Wilmer’s budget indicates 25% of their revenue comes from traffic fines.

This town is extreemly crooked. If you are the last car in a group going through town you will be the one cited for speeding. If you take defensive driving DO NOT mail the paperwork to them, they will say they didn’t get it and issue a warrant for your arrest, then you pay ahuge fine in addition to the money you already paid them to take the course. This is not just me saying this. It has happened to two other people from my hometown! This town should be exposed on national T.V. and the police officers, judges etc. should be sent to prison.

I live in Wilmer and I can tell you that I-45, anywhere in Wilmer, is a speed trap. The cops have a habit of sitting on the onramp at the northbound entrance of Beltline. If you are headed northbound make sure you reduce your speed to 60 right after leaving Ferris. They don’t discriminate against the northbound, southbound traffic gets a lot of tickets, too. Wilmer police have a contract with the sheriffs department in which Wilmer police patrol the highway for half of the month and the sheriffs patrol the other half. That’s why you would see both of them giving tickets.

Just so you know, Wilmer police have been known to pull over drivers in town if they do not recognize them. My son had just moved to town and was driving my car and got pulled over because the cop did not know who he was.

If you drive a semi, do not try to drive it into town. There is a Dollar General two blocks from the freeway, don’t go past it or you will get a heafty ticket. Also, truckers, there is a weigh station that opened up randomly, watch for that.

I was coming into Wilmer at about 10:30 after driving 6 hrs to get to my brother that was in hospital. When out of nowhere this cop comes out and says i was going 79 in a 60 trying to explain that I was just keeping up with traffic. There were several cars ahead of me going faster than I when I looked down I was going 70. I was at the end of the pack he stated that my cruise control is not a valid way to keep up the speed limit. I did not know that the speed limit dropped so suddenly and also that out of all the cars since i was in the last that I would be pulled over. I Had surgery and couldn’t make my court date so I sent the money off and now I have a warrant for failure to appear. Never mind the fact that I have papers showing I was in the hospital at the time of the court date.
