When you enter the city limits of Wilmer or just pass through on Interstate 45,BEWARE. Traffic citations for anything and everything is a way of supporting this City. Also, be aware, that it is very common to be arrested for failure to signal lane change, running stop sign, etc. Yes, I said ARRESTED for very minor traffic offenses. Although most officers in the surrounding cities would not stoop to this type of behavior, Wilmer officers will arrest you for just about anything. If you waste your time going to Court for a speeding ticket or any other traffic offense, forget it. If there are 25 (and there are usually more) defendants, all will be found guilty. The good news is: APPEAL YOUR CITATIONS TO DALLAS COUNTY. Even if you have to pay an attorney and perhaps pay one out of three of the citations, the City of Wilmer gets NOTHING! The costs of paying the City or paying an attorney and the County usually even out and you haven’t given Wilmer anything. I know it is easier just to pay, but it just encourages these officers to continue arresting citizens on ridiculous charges such as “failure to signal lane change””! “

Interstate 45 near Mile Marker 272

Those traveling between the Houston and Dallas area use Interstate 45, for at least 200 miles between the cities the highway is a good safe road with two lanes in each direction and has a 70 mph speed limit. However, with no warning the road greatly improves, becomes a much better road and expands to 3 lanes and THEN BAMM! ~~~~ That is where you hit the speed trap, the speed limit unexpectly drops from 70 to 60 just as the road improved and where you would least expect it. I was stopped for going 70 in a 60. The officer was unfriendly and intimidating bordering on hostile. I noticed they were getting unusually angry because so many cars were honking as they passed.

After my citation I continued through and noticed tickets being written exclusively on the North bound side where all the incoming traffic still thought the speed limit was 70. The appearance of the improved and expanded road is deceiving to any reasonable motorist for a decrease in speed and the City of Wilmer is taking advantage and abusing the unsuspecting motorist to finance the city. If the speed limit had been decreased due to a a legitimate safety factor in that area then signs alerting to a “decreasing”” limit should be posted as they are in other “”small towns””. “
