Gorst, Washington Speed Traps
State Troopers will sit on the turn around to Business and tag Speeders on West Highway 16 as they come around the bend and over the hill. These Troopers are running Lazar Radar Guns which are impossible to detect. Once you see them it is too late your getting a ticket.
They have at least 3 areas for which they sit:
1. just under the overpass where you cannot see them on Westbound 16 tagging drivers just as the Speed Limit drops from 60 to 40.
2. On the overpass facing North Highway 3 tagging Drivers traveling Westbound 16 heading onto North 3.
3. Facing North on Highway using the center divide to block your view of them while you travel Southbound on Washington State Highway 3 as the Speed Limit drops from 50 to 40.
In all 3 sitting areas they have at least 3 or 4 State Troopers ready to Issue Tickets.
speed reduction going into the curves 60-50-40 mph
State Trooper sits in the parking lot of Heritage Fireplace hidden next their sign and because of his raised vantage point can shoot radar & laser both directions but concentrates on the Gorst Loop. He is also known to pull over Non-speeding vehicles and runs routine paperwork checks. He will start with "Where are you going" Reply with "why was I stopped?" Next he’ll ask "Do you know how fast you were driving" Reply with "how fast did you record me as driving as I don’t believe I was speeding" Bet you money he will then reply "I stopped you because you appeared to be weaving in your lane" Simply reply "last I heard using all of my lane wasn’t illegal, are you saying that I broke lanes or attempted to change lanes without signalling?" He will then get irritated, go back to his vehicle to check your paperwork and return telling you to have a nice evening. Has happened twice with me, once with a family member and a few others that I know of.
When traveling north on 16 through Gorst. Beware of the State Trooper that is routinely laying in wait in the bypass on-ramp from Belfair direction overpass. The last six months he’s kind of set up camp and waits to blindly pounce. He is barely visible on top of the overpass if your watching closely as you come into Gorst. Once in Gorst, he is invisible until you’re past him and he pounces from the overpass on-ramp behind you.
