FM 1518, Chuy’s, Forum entrance by Costco

Selma, TexasOct 06, 20130 Comments

They are so desperate to save money that they now use dummies to replicate a cop sitting their car. Everytime I have seen it the dummy is usually wearing a baseball cap and oakely sunglasses. I know this is a FACT because it will stay parked all day and the "cop" never moves and you can see the sun reflect off its plastic face like a cpr dummy. I’ve seen it parked on 1518 across from wiederstein rd, right by Chuys on the frontage road and in the patch of grass in the forum entrance behind hobby lobby. You should always play it safe though because in Selma you can NEVER be too sure!

Lookout Road

Selma, TexasOct 01, 20120 Comments

A short section of Lookout Road that passes through Selma between Evans Road and 3009 is a speed trap. (It could go beyond 3009 but I was heading the other way). It’s a new section of multi-lane road with almost no traffic. The speed limit is supposedly 35 mph in that short section but is posted for a higher speed elsewhere on the same road. Police gleefully issue tickets in the Selma section.

I-35 and 1518 (Shertz exit)

Selma, TexasOct 24, 20110 Comments

I-35 and 1518 (Shertz exit). The police was taking radar as I was exiting the highway (70mph) on to a access road (45 mph). This dude was in the grass, way up in there. I assume that they need money for their little town and we are the donors.

15000 block of North Bound Frontage Road I.H.35

Selma, TexasOct 17, 20113 Comments

starting around 10pm, selma cops park in front of the closed stores along this north-bound frontage road. Usually seen in front of Furniture Row, Rudy’s, and near Hooters. But sometimes I see them on the highway itself, their stealthy police cars waiting in the shoulders

According to a policeman I know in New Braunfels, the Texas DPS informally asked Selma PD to reduce the amount of citations given due to speeding on IH35, as Selma PD were way over the state average. As a result, for the last several years, Selma PD is forced to work more along the access roads along the highway, as well as along the Forum Parkway in the Forum Shopping Center.

Not only is speed monitored along the access road (45 mph – do not increase speed until you are actually *ON* IH35!), but they will cite you for failing to yield (on the southbound access road), failure to come to complete stop (at intersection near Gillman Honda), crossing the double white line (northbound access road), etc. I was told by my policeman friend in NB that Selma PD are very heavy handed when it comes to vehicle searches, too, and he recommends complying with the officer’s requests or else the situation is guaranteed to escalate. (I think bullying may be a good way to describe how Selma cops will behave towards a driver who decides to argue)

Vehicle Equipment Citations are very common, too; they will not give you a warning to fix a burned out license plate bulb or headlight, for example. And expect no sympathy from anyone at the courthouse. With the exception of an approved Defensive Driving Course to dismiss a moving violation, which thankfully our State of Texas allows us -other deferrals are rarely given out.

Remember that Selma, Tx, is only about 5 square miles with a population of less than 1,000. I.H. 35 runs right down the middle of this, so please be careful driving on the high way, or along the access roads, or when visiting any of the shops at the Forum. Selma cops are a mean bunch, much worse than State Troopers!

sitting there with lights off while you are on the access rd coming up to traffic light and the idiotocy of them taking away the double left turning lane on the bridge to get to 1h35 south and into 1604 ..next is a selma cop on the grass off the access rd standing outside his car pointing a speed gun right at the access rd traffic which catches you off guard coming up since he poses his body and he looks like he is pointing a gun at you …wierd!
