Hwy 72 onto Brady or Shaw Rds merging to Co Rd 24/Ripley Rd

Athens, AlabamaJul 13, 20100 Comments

When you turn onto either Brady or Shaw Rd from Highway 72, the speed limit drops from 65 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour without ANY notification. I drove from Shaw road into Ripley for SEVEN MILES without seeing a SINGLE speed limit sign. When I did encounter one, it was just a quarter mile short of Zehner road, a cop was parked next to it and wrongfully gave me a ticket after nearly running me off the road in order to pull me over.

Stay away from the country back roads, even if your cruise control works perfectly, the cops have no problem nailing you for 60 when you’re doing 50 in what would normally be a 55. (Apparently Limestone County’s County roads are all 45 instead of the normal 55.)

Athens City Police run radar there almost every day. Speed drops from 50 mph to 45 mph to 35 mph. They are shooting as you enter the reduced speed area.

Cops sit in several parking lots on Jefferson and the City is constantly placing the Speeding Machine there. I got busted for the first time in 30 years because I wasn’t paying attention.

This is a school zone from 2:30-3:30. The speed drops to 35 mph. There are always two or three police cars actively pulling cars over the entire hour every day.

I-65 between Mile Marker 351 & Tennessee River Bridge

Athens, AlabamaJan 15, 20091 Comments

On I-65 between the 351 mile marker in Athens south to the Tennessee River Bridge (about 13 miles) there is a State Trooper in an unmarked silver Ford SUV. His blue lights are behind the grill. He has someone pulled over practically every time I travel on that stretch, which is fairly frequently. (Athens – Limestone County)
