Interstate 20

Moody, AlabamaSep 24, 20082 Comments

Moody city police seen on the interstate. The US Census states that Moody had population of 8,053 in 2000 and an estimate of 12,827 in 2008. Title 32 in Alabama states that no city under 19,000 has the legal right to enforce traffic laws on the interstate. Any traffic law. Moody is breaking the law by attempting to enforce traffic laws. Many people state that the area is big on drug trafficking and that seems to be the reason for the police being there, but they have no legal right to enforce traffic laws of any kind on the interstate.

County Trunk 10 near River Bridge

Moody, AlabamaFeb 15, 20060 Comments

As of lately, I have noticed an increase in patrol on Whites Chapel Road (Co. Rd. 10) at the bottom of the hill near the river bridge. Its always on weekday mornings just before daylight. The officer sits on the shoulder of the road with his lights turned off. As you all know, its difficult to go 40 MPH without riding the brakes all the way down the hill. This guy obviously has front and rear radar because he’s stoppng cars going East and West. Geez, I guess theres not much going on in Moody these days! You’ve been warned, dont be the next victim.

Interstate 20 near Mile Marker 144

Moody, AlabamaJan 09, 20040 Comments

All-members alert. The State of Alabama is running a speed trap on I-20 east of Birmingham, between Mile 144 and Mile 163. The area is hilly and wooded, with poor visibility and lots of hiding places. From Mile 144 to 158 is a perpetual construction area with a 55 speed limit. The rest is a 60 zone, arbitrarily reduced from 70 for "safety".

The state is broke. To save money, the Troopers are about 100 below authorized staffing, and there are NO troopers patrolling other parts of the state between about 9 PM and 5 AM. But the speed trap is always fully staffed because it makes money.

If you get a ticket there, your case goes to the District Court in St. Clair County. There are only two ways to beat a ticket in this court. If the cop doesen’t show, the judge may dismiss it – or he may keep you sitting there for two hours to give the cop time to get there, like he did me. The other way is to get elected to the State Legislature – they exempted themselves.
