Chaparral Road near Hayden Road

Photo radar vans in use day and night on both sides of Chaparral Road between Hayden Road and Miller Road. They frequently park along the side of the road in the front yards of several residences fronting the street. Speed limit is 30 MPH (unrealistically low). I have also witnessed, on several occasions, deployment of two photo radar vans in the same area, especially at night, with a second van posted a block or so past the first van one would encounter, catching drivers who speed up after passing the first photo radar van. This is a long-term, notorious speed trap. Additionally, there is extensive patrol activity by unmarked cars in the area, including Hayden Road, Chaparral Road, McDonald Drive and Granite Reef Road. Most of the cars are not white or typical police colors, I have seen black, grey, silver and red cars in use, always with a uniformed officer writing traffic tickets (not a detective unit). A definite revenue production operation.

Going west bound the white van (also it is a newer van, because Scottsdale has gone with a different outside contractor, so watch out for the newer vans, the old boxy "astro vans" are gone) in the driveway of the condos just past the Safeway. Going east bound the van hides either in the grass before Hayden, or right in the drainage canal at the west edge of the bridge. It’s impossible to see until it is too late, unless you know the area you are caught. The speed limit is 30 mph and stays at that until you are on east side of Chaparral even though the road widens from 1 lane to 3. Beware!

There is often a photoradar van hiding behind shrubbery/gate on Mountain View heading East as you near Hayden (from Scottsdale Rd). You cannot see this van until you have passed it (and possibly been flashed). It is there often, at least once a week.
