Earle, Arkansas Speed Traps
Was pulled over for doing “70+” MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Had my cruise control set on 55 MPH. Have had it checked for accuracy, so I know I was only doing 54 MPH at the time. So what do you do? There is no recourse here. Unfortunately, I will have to go through Earle again. Next time, I am setting my cruise control at 10 MPH UNDER the speed limit. Hope I’m not ticketed for driving too slow…
law enforcement will hide between tall grass and target out of town plates
Earle, AR is a well known speed trap and I don’t think I will ever travel through that town again. As I approached Earl, AR I slowed down and set my crews control to the 45 mph speed limit. It was late in the evening and there were very few drivers on the road. Even thought I wasn’t speeding, a police officer pulled me over. I knew I wasn’t because of the crews control so I asked him how fast I was going and he said he didn’t know but he knew I was speeding. He took my information and wrote me a ticket for “inattentive driving”. He said it was against their city ordinance to use cruise control in town. It doesn’t matter if you speed through there or not, they will pull you over and steal your money.
Earle is a longtime known speedtrap in Arkansas. These fellows have a new scam now. They will give you an "inattentive driving" ticket instead of the traffic violation. Since this is a city ordinance law they have passed, they don’t have to pay the state any portion of the money collected, but it don’t go on your record. So most are left without a fair shot at a trial and decide to plead guilty to this coerced ticket, even though there was probably nothing "inattentive" about the violation. I know if I didn’t pay my sales tax quarterly on my business the state would come after me! They have found a scam that screws the state out of the money and the unlucky soul they gave it to. This allows cowboy type domains to be set up, pretty much not having to answer to the state. Additionally, Earle and Parkin are so bad with speedtraps, and have been for years, I know several people that will not drive down a state highway because they know how crooked these people are. The Dept of Justice needs to looki into this because it really has caused problems with intra-state commerce and transportation.
The posted speed limits aren’t bad. The police just are wrong about how fast you are going. I have been stopped twice for going ten miles an hour faster than I was actually going. I received a ticket for one of those.
