Fullerton, California Speed Traps
State Highway 57 near Exit Number 7 Nutwood Av/Chapman Av
CHP has been aggressive on the 57 lately, particularly late at night. I’ve personally watched at least 1-2 cars getting pulled over (and shouted at over the PA to get off the freeway) from my vantage point every night. Traffic is very light and moves fairly quickly. They seem to be drawn to modified imports. Profiling perhaps?
State Highway 57 South near Yorba Linda Boulevard
Entering 57 south from eastbound on Yorba Linda Blvd (coming away from Associated), there is a service road in between the bushes on the left side of the road. The author of this post has observed either CHP (especially), Fullerton, or CSUF Police units parked on this road perpendicular to the entrance lanes, watching vehicles. This usually occurs around rush hour, when the metering lights are on. They may or may not be checking speeds, although they certainly are watching for motorists illegally using the diamond lane. Since they do hide out of immediate view, I believe this qualifies as a trap of some sort.
S/B St. College at Mendocino (S. of Bastenchury downhill)
Motorcycle cop sits at the intersection of St. College and Mendocino St. (sits right in the mouth of Mendicino), you can’t see him until it’s too late because of the curve in the road. Uses laser to catch people going southbound (downhill). When I questioned the officer in court and I stated that he was sitting at the mouth of Mendocino the Officer stated in court that he was sitting considerable south of Mendocino on St. College, and he used the "I don’t recall" excuse alot. I think he says he was sitting south of where he actually was because the Engineering and traffic survey is done at the Great Light Korean Church on 6/1/98 (I got the ticket in 2000, I just found this site and have seen officer sitting there recently). Hopefully they haven’t updated the survey, if you have gotten a ticket since 6/1/2003. My Ticket was for violation 22350, but the Magistrate is hard core. When I fought and lost, several others fought tickets and he found everyone guilty(with mine he stated in court that he was going to put down some info. that would make it impossible for me to appeal. The magistrate also patronized me by saying what a good job I did in my effort to fight the ticket. I tried to do this on my own (wasn’t aware of web sites that can help you prepare), I didn’t look up the charge or request any info. from the D.A., and now know that I was under prepared (I didn’t know about the survey’s or what the 22350 law was, and I didn’t get any info. about the laser). I hope this helps someone.
Rosecrans Ave @ Parks Rd (parks jr high)
The motorcycle cop hides in the driveway of Parks Jr High and tags cars with his laser. Posted is 40mph but can easily be going 50+ on Rosecrans. This area is a brand new speed trap so BE CAREFUL!
Euclid and Rosecrans Ave
The motorcycle cop will blend in with the big plaza sign while shooting his laser at oncoming traffic. Be careful because that section of Euclid is long and open which proans fast speeds!
