Mason Avenue near Rinaldi Street

Los Angeles, CaliforniaJun 08, 20070 Comments

Mason Between Rinaldi and Chatsworth is a down hill grade posted 35mph. The police work in teams of 2 and sometimes 3 motorcycle officers. The 35mph is unrealistic in that you can’t even coast down the street without hitting 45 to 50 mph. DeSoto Av. due west of Mason is also a downhill street with the same degree of descent and the speed limit on DeSoto is 45 mph.

Lincoln Boulevard near LAX

Los Angeles, CaliforniaMay 22, 20070 Comments

Going north after you pass the Lincoln/Sepulveda split there is a straight stretch of road that parallels the runway at LAX. At the end of this the road curves to the right. There is often a policeman waiting just before the curve with a radar gun in the early morning (because there is not much traffic so people are going fast). In the afternoon, going south, the police will be waiting at the end of the straight stretch of road just before the junction of Lincoln into Sepulveda. They will be there a few days in a row, then leave for a month or so, then come back. I got a ticket for going 61 in a 55.

Stadium Way near Academy Drive

Los Angeles, CaliforniaApr 12, 20070 Comments

This is the approach to Dodger Stadium from south bound Interstate 5 that many morning commuters use to get into downtown LA. Going south bound on Stadium Way as you approach Academy Dr. two motorcycle officers will sit at the bottom of the hill where if you turn left onto Academy Dr. will take you to Dodger Stadium and the LA Police Academy. (No joke!) There is a posted speed limit sign of 35 mph as you crest the hill on Stadium Way just before you make a slight turn to the left and start down the hill. You can’t see the officers because of the hill and turn. Before you know it, you’ve pick up speed and they have got you on radar! I’ve known about this trap and go through it every morning and it’s still hard for me to keep my speed down.
