San Jose, California Speed Traps
Park Avenue near Bird/Montgomery Avenue Crossing
When turning onto Park Ave from Race St (or others inbetween)you encounter a downhill under an overpass and tend to gain speed. When approaching the uphill to the Montgomery/Bird stop light….there is a motorcycle cop hidden behind or near a chain link fence/empty parking area right at the intersection to the right. He will walk into the right hand turn lane pointing the radar at you. The speed limit is 35mph…When asked, I thought it to be 45mph. The speed limit sign is posted way back from the intersection and it is not a residential area.
Hamilton Avenue near Latimer Avenue
Hamilton Avenue, mostly eastbound. As you are driving away from Westgate Mall toward San Tomas Aquino Road, there is a sweeping right hand curve and there are usually 3-4 motorcycle policemen and 1 car cop with a radar gun. People typically drive 40-45 mph on this section of road, which is safe in my humble opinion, and by the time they come around the corner and see the cop with the radar gun, it’s too late. One of the motorcycle cops chases you down and pulls you over. I’ve seen this happen in the morning sometimes, but usually in the afternoon toward the end of the month when the non-existent quotas for traffic tickets don’t need to be filled since they don’t exist. Additionally, I’ve never seen this speed trap when it’s really cold or raining outside. I guess something can be said for inclement weather.
Branham Lane near Pearl Avenue
Traveling east on Branham toward Pearl ave, as you come down from the Light rail overpass, approx 300 yards down the hill, you will find 2 or more police standing on the side of the road under a shadey tree next to the Pearl ave/ Branham ln bus stop. been there for years consistantly
BRANHAM Lane near PEARL Avenue
at least once a week….corner of heppner ave and branham ln. westbound on branham as you go over the light rail hill you will get zapped by a radar/ possible laser. cop sits about 200 yards down the hill just before pearl ave under some shaded trees. Usually there is three or more cops, some cars, some motorcycles. i have seen as many as 6 cops at one time.
Branham Lane near Pearl Avenue
Heading west-bound on Branham Lane, coming down the slope after going over the 85 freeway and Lightrail station; The "revenue agents" SJPD, usually will park their motorcycles off the street and step out from the curb to radar on-coming traffic.
I have only seen this occur on week days and during mid-day. Not sure what time they start of finish.
