Whites Canyon Road near Delight Street

Santa Clarita, CaliforniaJun 13, 20040 Comments

As you proceed north from Pleasantdale street, Whites Canyon curves to the right. Deputies often park at the curb well around the bend with their radar. By the time that you see their car, it is too late to check your speed. Be sure to be going 40MPH or less along this stretch. I live near this spot, and when the deputy is there I hear him blip his siren to pull someone over every 10 minutes or so for hours on end. Officers also watch southbound (downhill) traffic on Whites Canyon, but there isn’t a convenient spot for them to hide in this direction.

Sierra Highway

Santa Clarita, CaliforniaFeb 18, 20032 Comments

There are several traps dotted along this 14 mile stretch of road. The one most frequented by cops is the one comming out of canyon country where the road is one lane each direction and the speed limit is 55 MPH, but then the road opens up into a 4 lane undivided HWY. but they reduce the speed to 45 MPH. The cops and the court system have a neat little revenue scam working there. The other trap is near the town of Agua Dulce on the hill near Mint Canyon. Cops love to give tickets to motorists as they go down hill. Again the cops and the court have another tickets for revenue scheme working here because there mentality is if
you’re going down hill you must be speeding.

I5 Northbound just before Lyons Ave

Santa Clarita, CaliforniaJan 18, 20030 Comments

An officer in a radio car will usually sit on the shoulder of the onramp to I5 northbound. This onramp is below the line of sight for motorists heading up the 5. The primary reason for this trap is to catch people speeding after coming down the long hill from the 14 interchange. Just before you pass the health club off on the right, check your speed.

I14 at Golden Valley

Santa Clarita, CaliforniaJun 19, 20020 Comments

Gore point/ Lane change sting. When traffic bogs down the exit lane for Golden Valley keeps moving. Cars hold right and then crash across the gore point back into traffic cutting people off. CHP loves to line up cars and ticket them. Part 2: the smart thing is to exit Golden Valley and re-enter, but the "go straight" lane backs up too. Cars go to the left-only lane and go straight. There is usually a second vehicle waiting for these people and lining them up giving tickets on the onramp.
