Walnut Creek, California Speed Traps
Creekside Drive near South Main Street
There is a parking lot on the right side when traveling west on Creekside and 8 out of ten times there is a patrol car parked in an inconspicuous spot looking for cars coming down the hill over 25mph. If not there, they usually are conveniently parked long the street and when it’s dark you can’t tell what kind of car it is and they pull out right behind you with flashing lights. Watch out!
Ygnacio Valley Rd. past Oak Grove headed toward Clayton
There are two traps located on this hilly portion of Ygancio Valley. The first, headed toward Clayton is usually 2 or 3 motorcycle officers hidden behind brush on the side of the road. Not one person goes the limit of 55mph, so they pick out any one person to ticket. The second is in the other direction headed toward Walnut Creek. Usually a cruiser pulls backward into an empty gravel driveway which is located over a creek. They then proceed to use radar on everyone coming down the hill. It is posted 45 at the bottom of a huge hill and there is no apperant reason for the decrease of mph. Watch out on this stretch of Ygancio, there is usually at least one police officer on on side of the road or the other!
Carriage Drive and Arkell Drive/Treat Blvd.
Beware of Walnut Creek motorcycle officers with radar guns sitting at Carriage Drive and sometimes Arkell Drive near the Countrywood Shopping Center on Treat Blvd.; They are looking for mainly students who have just gotten out of high schools – there are three in the area and people who go above the speed limit, which I believe was 45 mph.
Ygnacio Valley at Shadelands Ranch
Motorcycle cop likes to sit in the driveway to the ranch area. Speed limit drops to 45 in this stretch after people are used to driving 55+ over the hill from Concord. The cop is hard to see due to the low hanging trees and tons of shade. I’ve seen him there as early as 5:30am!
Ygnacio Valley under 680 overpass
Motorcycle cop likes to sit in the median by the bridge support and wait for people shooting past cars in the exit lane. Posted limit is 30 which is hard to handle when people are focused on getting on the freeway and the rest of Ygnacio Valley is 35 or higher.
