California Street near Ave. ‘F’Live Oak Canyon Road
California St from Ave E to Ave F (Live Oak Cyn Rd) has a posted speed limit of 35mph and the limit is enforced on a regular basis. In this area, Calif St is 4 full lanes with parking on both sides and visibility is excellent. There are a few driveways. I would estimate the 85th percentile of free flowing (without the posted 35mph limit) traffic to be 50 to 55mph. Based on years of experience conducting speed zone surveys with Caltrans, I do not believe a proper traffic engineering speed survey could possibly have been conducted on this stretch of road.
Yucaipa blvd…anywhere on this street is a nitemare!
Cops in this small town are known to completely abuse the fast speed change from 40 mph to 35 mph. They (both cruisers and cycles) like to especially hide at the high school and lay in wait for drivers just trying to get from one end of town to the other. This town does not have many other ways to get from end to end so the 6 cops that patrol this entire town usually have 3-4 radars on this 3 mile stretch. Go to court in San Berdo and you will see that 95% are there for this area. I can not believe that no one has posted this town on this site! Cops are not polite either…best suggestion is to take the outside lane and go 30 mph and ride the brake alllllll the way down from freemont ave till the freeway. Cops pull over for going 3 mph over the posted and that is not an exageration! Beware!!! They will also search for other reasons to cite once you are pulled over. Only revenue for small town?
Interstate 10 westbound, west of County Line Road exit.
Just past the County Line Rd. exit, the freeway curves left down a hill. There is a dirt area on the right hand side of the freeway where I regularly see CHP’s. I have also seen them sitting on the onramp at County Line rd. Both positions are hidden from view when you are going west.
