Jacksonville, Florida Speed Traps
State Route 9A
State Route 9A is partially finished between I-295 in the north and US Route 1 in the south. Both Florida Highway Patrol and the Duval County Sheriff’s office (which also is the Jacksonville Police Dept) set-up radar either in cars or on motorcycles. Generally, they are in the median, often under the overpass as one approaches the Dames Point Bridge going northbound. Expect to see some police any time of the day.
US 17 just South of bridge over Ortega River
Going Northbound on US 17 towards the Ortega River, there is a church parking lot on the right hand side of the road. Odds are about even that there is a police officer very well hidden in the trees in this lot. Many times there are three or four motorcycle officers there to run down offenders while the radar unit calls out descriptions of autos.
Baycenter Road in the Deerwood Center
They generally hide on the first block from Phillips Highway. This is usually for the North bound side but sometimes switch to the southbound side in the same area.
J Turner Butler (JTB) Blvd. between I95 and A1A
At various locations up and down JTB, JSO sets radar traps, usually during morning rush hour. Speeds of 90 to 100 are typical in the fast lane, so play it safe and stay in the other two (unless you’re really late for work!). Also, heading towards A1A, after going over the intercoastal bridge, they like to set up in the median as you go over the second part of the bridge.
