Canton, Georgia Speed Traps
575 Southbound On ramp from GA HWY 20
There are about 20 Canton Police on the southbound on ramp stopping EVERYBODY checking license, registration, and alcohol/drug intake.
GA Hwy 20 at Sutallee Baptist Church
Cherokee County parks across the street from Sutallee Baptist Church, usually catching people coming eastbound from Cartersville toward Canton. Alternately, they will sit in the gravel parking lot and catch people headed from Canton to Cartersville as they come over the hill at Sutallee.
Near Town Square Downtown Canton, GA
Sept 7, 2010 Canton police have camera to catch drivers stopping for pedestrians crossing street to the town square. If you do not remain stopped for the pedestrian to walk completely across the street and step onto the opposite curb, they will give you a ticket even if the pedestrian has safely cleared your lane.
Hwy 5 N just after I-575 exit 16 merge at Williamson Bros
After the long exit ramp you turn right heading N on Hwy 5. The speed limit is 45 mph which is reasonable, but you have been used to doing 65 mph on the Interstate so it is easy to be going too fast. The Canton police sit just across the river in the driveway of the old State Patrol station. They can get your speed before you can locate them. They are there every day. It really is not a "trap" because you shouldn’t expect to be able to go over 55 mph on a surface street even if it is 4 lanes and you are within a half mile of passing Cherokee High School. It is just very easy to be going too fast- be cautious and safe and the police will probably be happy!
Hickory Rd. (from 140 to Hwy 5)
Police hide in numerous places on this rd, especially around the blind curves. Also been through a number of road blocks on this stretch of rd. The speed limit is 40 and I’ve actually passed a cop going the other way who turned his lights & siren on to warn me when I was only going 45! Be careful… they’re sneaky.
