Darien, Georgia Speed Traps

On my way to see my parents for Christmas, I was traveling North on I95 (near Darien, Ga) with my cruise control set to 79 mph when suddenly a truck swerved in behind me in the right lane. My family was startled by how close the truck had come to us before swerving in behind us. It was not until the truck had squeezed in behind me that he turned on his blue lights. I immediately pulled over on to the shoulder and stopped. A local deputy came up to my window and asked for my drivers license (not insurance or registration). He went back to his truck and quickly returned to my window with a ticket siting me as speeding 88 mph in a 70 speed limit. On the ticket he had also marked Traffic as Light and took the time to provide me with an unsolicited comment that his radar was calibrated earlier that day. I knew to just keep quiet because it "smelled" like a set up (as I knew my speed and how heavy the traffic was) and I did not want to give the deputy any excuses to further ruin our Christmas vacation. This was such an obvious trap that my children immediately commented on the excitement of the deputy to hand me a ticket and on the inaccuracy of his accusations. Drivers beware!!!

My daughter got a speeding ticket and a "following too close" on I-95. She told me that she probably was weaving and following too closely (if such is possible in thick interstate traffic) but she was sure that she was not speeding. Her friend verified this to me as well. She asked to see the read out from the radar and the police told her that he used a laser and that required neither calibration nor verification.
The police officer asked to search her car and she said no. He then put a dog by the car and said that it had alerted for marijuana and said that he could call in for a search warrant. She asked if she could call me for advice and the police told her that he would arrest her if she used the phone. She stood her ground and finally he gave her two tickets.
Within a few days of this incident we received four, FOUR, postcards from law firms stating that if we hired them they could keep points off her license. A call to the clerk’s office verified that no points would be assigned to her license anyways.
Attempting to contact any one in the legal field-solicitor, clerk of court, anyone like that, results in a run around.
Fine job McIntosh County. You can be sure that whenever I’m on I-95 at night all my litter will be finding a new home.

I was traveling in the slow lane with a vehicle in front of me as a vehicle doing about 3mph faster then me passed in the second from right lane. As a group we were and bunched up at about 80-83mph. I, in my full size silverado with big chrome wheels and dark tinted glass somehow got singled out and cited for 91 in a 70 zone. There is no judge to convice here on this site….what I say is true. He asked me to sign the ticket and then step out of my vehicle and walk to the back. At this point he asked if I would mind if he searched my vehicle, I stated no and asked if that was going to deside if I recieved the ticket he still had. He said no, asked me to stay put and pulled out his dogs and still searched the outside of my truck before telling me to have a good day and returning to his. I left wondering if I have actually been sited or not having not been given a copy of the signed ticket……Well I know now that they suspended my Florida License. I guess he didn’t like not getting his way in regard to the search.

I was on my way to my friend’s wedding in North Carolina driving up 95. I got to some rural area when out of the blue is see a cop on my rear. I was keeping my eyes on my speed and was going over the speed limit; I was going around 80mph in a 70. He pulls me over and gives me the cop verbiage about wondering if I knew what I did etc. He then said he clocked me at 85. I definitely was NOT and wanted to see his gun. He said it was just calibrated. Well, I have no proof who’s car he had clocked. So thinking it would be no big deal I take the ticket and he thanked me for wearing my seatbelt. I don’t know if its because I had Florida plates and an easy target and figured out of staters wont show up for court. So I get home and check the price (because its not on the ticket) and it was $286!!! Oh yeah, plus a $25 service fee!!! Horrible place.

I was driving north on I-95 on my way to Pennsylvania to get married. I was going with the flow of traffic. I was driving in the left lane and there were several cars around me in the right lane going the same speed. This officer is behind me and turns on his lights so I was pulled over. He questioned me with, “Where are you headed in such a hurry this evening?” I said, “Officer I honestly didn’t realize I was speeding as I was going with the flow of traffic.” When he turned his lights on behind me I was doing 79 mph. He gave me a citation for 86 in a 70. It wasn’t just me in the car, my best friend who was also my Matron of Honor was in my car and we were talking. This was about 12:30 a.m. or so. After giving me the citation, I asked the officer, “Do they not give out warnings anymore?” He said to me, “No ma’am, we are strict about enforcing citations.” I had no tickets on my record, no criminal background, nothing. Usually, the first one is a warning and telling you to be more careful but not in this town. After reading about the speed traps; this is definitely how they work and the officer singled me out because I was in the left lane and the easiest to get to rather than trying to fight with the “line of traffic” in the right lane.
