Darien, Georgia Speed Traps
All of Darien
While the McIntosh County Sherriffs Office protrols the road, enforcement is fair. The City of Darien having spent themselves into debt and being in need of funds went from one police car to six in order to raise money. There are speed traps being run at various times day and night.
Just Entering the City on U.S. Hwy. 17, Northbound
The narrow bridge has a hill in the middle (to allow boats to pass under). The speed limit is 35 southbound, but 45 northbound. Just as you crest the hill (running 45-50), there’s a sign that is invisible until you crest the hill. That sign says Speed Limit: 30. Cops sit in the parking lot at the end of the bridge, knowing you can’t drop from 45 to 30 in the few feet you have before you pass the sign.

City of Darien officers just love this area, even though it is technically not within their jurisdiction. It has been a non stop construction zone for years, and if you do travel the posted 60, you will be rear ended or just flattened.
